To inaugurate our partner spotlight series, lead esthetician Cathy Cleary gives us an inside look at the spa and its services and shares her professional skincare tips for the ultimate in healthy beauty.What is different or special about your spa/property? Take us there! The JW Marriott provides an environment of simple elegance and beautiful surroundings. We offer a healthy bistro, VIP Spa Sanctuary Suite, Fitness Facility, Steam, Sauna, Turkish Hammam, Desert Rain Showers and a Salt Water Lap pool. I think what makes our Spa most unique and special are the Estheticians and Massage Therapists, the majority of whom have been here 15-25 years mastering and delivering their expert crafts.Tell us how you got into the skincare industry… I got into the skincare industry 24 years ago when my husband was transferred to Palm Desert, California from NYC. I spent the first 10 years of my career working in Washington DC and NYC as a buyer/designer. My work involved a lot of traveling and working long and late hours. When we first landed in Palm Springs, I thought I was in heaven. Our daughter was seven months old and I was pregnant with our son. I worked for Marriott International Headquarters in Bethesda, Maryland for eight years and was delighted to be hired at the beautiful serene JW Marriott Resort and Spa Desert Springs. My initial motivation was a career change in a peaceful and healing spa environment. Twenty four years later, the JW Marriott Resort and Spa still offers me a sense of harmony and wellness that I extend to all my guests on a daily basis. I have had the pleasure of being the lead esthetician for the past nine years.What’s your personal skincare regimen? My personal skincare regimen consists of cleansing with a cocktail of Kerstin Florian Rejuvenating Cleansing Gel mixed with Rehydrating Neroli Cleansing Milk , using my Clarisonic Cleansing tool. I tone with Rose Water. I always “treat” my skin, but that changes depending on the season. My favorite serums are Caviar Age-Defense Serum and Brightening Facial Treatment. In the morning, I moisturize with Multi-Vitamin Day Crème SPF 30 with a little Caviar Age-Defense Crème. In the evening, I apply the Intensive Renewal Glycolic 15 twice a week, Rejuvenating Moisture Balm twice a week and Caviar Night Crème 3 nights a week. And always use the Caviar Eye Crème both day and night. I also use the At-Home Professional Peel pads a few times a week followed by the Rescue Crème. I basically listen to my skin and follow what it needs. It is constantly changing with seasons, stress and hormones.What are your must-have skin and beauty products? My must-have skin and beauty products are my Correcting Eye Rescue, and I use Caviar Eye Crème with the Clarisonic Opal. That combo is a life saver when I have too much sugar or salt the night before and I wake up with puffy eyes. I must have the At-Home Professional Peel, Brightening Facial Treatment and Caviar Night Crème. Those products provide immediate, visible results.What are some of your favorite Kerstin Florian products? My favorite Kerstin Florian products? I have so many to choose from because I started using the line at age 30 and now in my 50’s I have experienced the complete product line! But if I have to choose then I would say my current favorites are in the Caviar line: the Age-Defense Serum, Age-Defense Crème, Night Crème and Eye Crème.Share your best “insider” skincare or beauty tip! Best “insider” skincare or beauty tip- I have completely embraced the world of Kerstin Florian with the holistic European Spa approach to beauty, "Outer Beauty, Inner Health." My best skincare tip is to connect with nature every day and sweat! (with Kerstin Florian SUN SPF 30 on), eat clean with healthy food and drink a lot of water. Invest in a few quality products and establish good skincare rituals at home.How do you incorporate health & wellness into your busy schedule? I incorporate health and wellness into my busy schedule by getting up at 4:50 am and hiking the desert mountains most mornings. I also like to balance out the week with yoga and biking a few times a week. I find my success with a consistent workout is getting up early and enjoying the prize of a beautiful sunrise.How do you inspire your guests to incorporate wellness into their stay and their daily lives? I think the biggest inspiration I can offer my guests is living by example. I absolutely love to educate my guests on how to care for their skin but I also share with them the best hiking and biking trails our desert has to offer.What is your top wellness tip? My best wellness tip: Be kind to yourself with daily exercise, stretching, healthy food, drinking clean water, regular and good skincare rituals, and lastly...sleep! Your skin needs 7-8 hours of rest a night to achieve good health.
